PPPshar Installation
Error: "unable to start the application"
PPPshar suddenly will not work saying
"unable to start the application - the class files could not be loaded"

SOLUTION:

Click here to Download the latest Microsoft JVM and install.
back to top

PPPshar does not run or load.
If you have problems in running the PPPshar program then do the following.
Download MS-JVM by clicking here. Install it in the computer where you want to run PPPshar. Windows XP users should install this JVM or install the latest service pack for Windows XP. The service pack contains the latest JVM component required to run pppshar and also required to view java-enabled webpages.

Note: 1) Internet Explorer 5.x or higher with the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine component is required in the machine where pppshar is installed.
If you have Windows 98, Me, NT (with SPs) or Win 2000, then the JVM required to run PPPshar is already present in your computer. Please run the "Check System" program from the PPPshar program group to detect the presence of this component in your system. If this "check system" program does not report any errors, then your system has the correct version of the JVM that is required to run PPPshar. But it is advisable to update the JVM to the latest version. Download MS-JVM by clicking here.You can easily add this JVM component using the Internet Explorer setup wizard. Refer PPPshar Help for more info.

2) If the JVM is the absent in your machine and you do not want to install Internet Explorer, just download and install Microsoft Java Virtual Machine in the gateway machine to use PPPshar. Download MS-JVM by clicking here.

Windows XP - Error: Stop 0x000000D1 or DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

The Stop 0xD1 message indicates that the system attempted to access pageable memory using a kernel process IRQL that was too high. Drivers that have used improper addresses typically cause this error.

Stop 0xD1 messages can occur after installing faulty drivers or system services. If a driver is listed by name, disable, remove, or roll back that driver to confirm that this resolves the error. If so, contact the manufacturer about a possible update. Using updated software is especially important for backup programs, multimedia applications, antivirus scanners, DVD playback, and CD mastering tools. For more information about Stop 0xD1 messages, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

Connections

Dialup for Out-bound, Satellite dish for In-bound
Query from Saudi Arabia:
"I have downloaded PPPShare and tested it on my Dail-up/Satellite "One-Way"
Connection. Here are my findings:

My Satellite connection is a "One-Way" Connection. It uses a Normal
Dial-up (via Modem) for Out-Bound Traffic, and all In-Bound Traffic
comes through the satellite dish.

The satellite connection uses a special PCI Digital Receiver/NIC with a
MAC Address. The IP for the Receiver/NIC is set to 10.10.10.10 with
subnet mask 255.255.255.0

The Dial-up Connection used with the satellite connection has the HTTP
Proxy set to 127.0.0.1 Port: 9202, and SOCKS 127.0.0.1 Port: 9203. No
other servers are setup.

PPPShare worked fine with HTTPS and FTP. However, it did NOT work with
HTTP nor SOCKS. My guess is that it is due to the 127.0.0.1 (Loop back
Connection).

Could you recommend a solution/solutions?"

SOLUTION:

Copy and paste the following into PPPshar Pro Settings file
(settings.ini) at the end of the file.

#oneway
service=oneway
map=tcp
host=127.0.0.1
listen=81
remote=9202
enable=yes

#oneway2
service=oneway2
map=tcp
host=127.0.0.1
listen=1080
remote=9203
enable=yes

Disable #http and #socks - change enable=yes to enable=no

Save and restart pppshar. Then verify the proxy settings in the
browser in the client pc. The http proxy address should point to
pppshar/gateway pc IP address and port 81 for http and 1080 for
socks.

PPPshar settings - Direcway Satellite

If you are connected to Internet through Direcway satellite connections, then the browser in the gateway pc is likely to be configured for a proxy. So make the following changes to PPPshar Pro Settings.

Copy and paste the following into PPPshar Pro Settings file (settings.ini) at the end of the file.

#direcway
service=direcway
map=tcp
host=127.0.0.1
listen=81
remote=83
enable=yes

Save and restart pppshar. Then verify the proxy settings in the browser in the client pc. The http proxy address should point to pppshar/gateway pc IP address with port 81

AOL Dial-up, DSL, Satellite
You can share any type of Internet connection using PPPshar Pro. So you can share AOL dialup, DSL or satellite (AOL plus) connections.

Whatever be the type of AOL connection, you can comfortably share your internet connection from the client pc using any browser (non-AOL). You can also use any other Internet software from the client pc. No modification is necessary in pppshar settings or in the AOL software.

But if you want to logon through the AOL software from the client PC, then there are limitations if your ISP is AOL.

AOL allows only one connection per session, so your client computers cannot logon to AOL when the main pc is connected to the same aol account. We have feedback from PPPshar users that AOL 8 DSL supports multiple logons and so it is possible to logon through AOL software from the client pc. So try it. We can help you with any information in this regard.

If your ISP is not AOL, then you can very much use any version of AOL software from the client pc by configuring it for SOCKS proxy.

Avantgo Mobile Software - Palm OS
CONFIGURING MY AVANTGO FOR PROXY SERVERS

During installation, My AvantGo client software looks at how your desktop browser is configured and configures itself the same way. If your browser settings are incorrect, you want to connect to a different proxy server, or My AvantGo is unable to find the information, you may need to add these settings using one of two methods: with Autodetect or manually.

Use Autodetect to configure your proxy settings if your desktop computer accesses the Internet through a proxy server and if all servers you access with My AvantGo are accessed through a proxy server.

2) Click the Connection tab.
3) Click Use Microsoft Internet Explorer proxy settings.

Note: The "Microsoft Internet Explorer proxy settings" option is available if AvantGo Connect detects Microsoft Internet Explorer has proxy settings configured. Use this option if you want AvantGo Connect to use the same settings.
To configure proxy server settings using Autodetect:
1) Click Start | Programs | AvantGo | AvantGo Connect.
The AvantGo Connect Control Panel appears.
2) Click the Connection tab.
3) Click Autodetect now.
4) Click Done. Click Detect Again to retry.
5) Click OK.
Occasionally, no channels are received after a successful sync. It may be that your browser proxy setting is incorrect or that AvantGo Connect is unable to find the information. If this happens you will have to configure the connection manually.
To configure proxy server settings manually:
1) Select Start | Programs | AvantGo | AvantGo Connect. The AvantGo Connect Control Panel appears.
2) Click the Connection tab.
3) Click Use these proxy settings.
4) Click Change. The Advanced Connection Settings panel appears.
